Mama D's Kitchen
Island Tings was born out of a simple truth β there's no place like home. Our founder, Donna "Mama D" Campbell, grew up in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, where every Sunday meant a yard full of family, the smell of curry chicken simmering on the stove, and brown stew that took all morning to perfect.
When she moved to Miami Gardens in 2004, she brought everything β the recipes, the spices, and most importantly the love. "When I cook, I'm still in that kitchen back yard," she says. "That's the feeling I want every customer to have."
Island Tings opened its doors in Miami Gardens in 2018 and quickly became a neighborhood institution. No shortcuts. No frozen proteins. No compromise on the Scotch bonnet.
Scratch-Made Every Day
Every protein is marinated, every sauce is made from scratch, every batch of rice & peas is cooked with coconut milk and pimento seeds. No shortcuts.
Real Scotch Bonnet
We use genuine Scotch bonnet pepper β grown in Jamaica. Not habanero, not cayenne. The real thing, for real Jamaican flavor.
Community is Family
Miami Gardens is home. We employ locally, give back to schools and community events, and treat every customer like family.
